  • Engage the child in individual play therapy to promote adaptive expression of emotions, develop more effective coping strategies, and increase a sense of mastery

  • Increase emotional and behavioral regulation (e.g., improve identification and adaptive expression of feeling states, increase self-regulation skills for the body, thinking, and emotions, strengthen empathy skills)

  • Reduce trauma residuals (e.g., anxiety, frequent worries and fears, hypervigilance / reactivity, trauma flashbacks) and promote healing

  • Support coping with grief and loss (e.g., parental separation, death, loss of a pet, family move, change in school setting)

  • Promote positive attachments and connections with others

  • Provide Cognitive-Behavioral Techniques (CBT) and mindfulness strategies to decrease anxiety, strengthen self-calming skills, and master difficult situations
